Time to Get Particular

Chelsea Fryc here! You must wonder why during my last semester of college at Slippery Rock University (maybe my last semester of school...ever) I decided to take a course called New-Media Journalism. As a soon-to-be public relations professional, journalism has slowly become extremely important to me. As I learned more about my future industry, I simultaneously learned more about journalism. Who's going to be there to tell my client's story when I believe they have something to share that's worthy of media attention? Journalists. Who's going to be the other half of my mutually beneficial relationship with the media world? Journalists.

The journalism world has been ever-changing and dynamic. Traditional to digital, paper to PC. Attention to the details of this changing industry is what is going to help me as a public relations professional. Hence the name of this blog. Not only being "PRetty Particular", but being insanely, over-the-top particular with acute attention to detail will allow me to thrive and move alongside the journalists through this change, not follow behind them. That, in a nutshell, is why I chose to move forward and learn more about how new-media is shaping journalism.

Anyway--I suppose you can tell that I'm passionate about my career in public relations, but there are many more details that have turned me into the passionate, PR-loving person that I am today. I'm a family girl, and part of my heart will always be in my hometown of Harrisburg, PA. Although, I soon hope to take a leap to the Steel City to settle down after graduation. I'm a fitness enthusiast, and you can catch me at the gym usually 7 days a week. Sports have grown on me, and I've become a Penguins over the last few years. The Stanley Cup championship was just a bonus to becoming a fan.

I might not be the most avid Tweeter, or a constant Facebook updater, but I do love social media, especially to stay up-to-date with the world. Follow, friend or connect with me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or LinkedIn. Traditionally, The New York Times has always had my vote. It never fails to make me feel more intelligent after reading any or many news stories. Never in paper form, though. Buzzfeed has cast a line and set the hook when it comes to new media. Easy and entertaining, but detailed and specific. Just the way I like it.

Stay tuned for more. Particularly, from a view that I'm not normally used to--the journalist's point of view.
